On a hike, the landscape constantly shows itself from a different side. Every nook and cranny opens up new and surprising aspects. These qualities will not be revealed to you by any travel guide, but they make your holiday unique and special. If you really want to know something, there is no other way than to dive right into it. The map is not the territory, as the philosopher, Alfred Korzybski, famously said. And he was right, wasn't he? Very special in the Val Badia Dolomites and in the Fanes Senes Braies nature park are the stories told here, be they legends or events of the mountain war in WW1. In any case, you can follow the footsteps of heroes.

... then we can talk at length about all the possible routes available. And of course about God and the universe as well if you want! We will be happy to pass on our top tips about a few special places that you might not otherwise be able to find. If you wish, a qualified mountain guide will accompany you. Sometimes Walter Willeit, the host at the Somür, will accompany you himself.

Where Dolasilla was crowned

Plan de Corones

In winter you can go skiing and snowboarding on Plan de Corones, and in summer, hiking. It is up to you to decide whether to go all the way on foot or if you prefer to use the cable car. There are magnificent, panoramic views to be enjoyed from the summit of Plan de Corones. The base of the Concordia 2000 Peace Bell consists of a 360-degree relief that shows all of the surrounding important mountain peaks.

A secret place

Spiagetta Ciamaor

Sunbathe for a while then doze in peace, before dipping your feet in the cold water and being wide awake again as you listen to the hoots and screeches of the owls. The little beach at the heart of the mountains is a magical place to rest under the trees or on deckchairs and picnic on the benches. It is hard to believe that the small grains of sand were once the mighty rocks of the Dolomites. You can also play tennis here, where nature is at its loveliest, either on an artificial court or in the sand, and a cycle path also passes this way. Just half an hour’s walk from this secret place, water rushes and tumbles over the Ciastlin falls. A truly magical sight!

Once upon a time – and still it is

Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park

Known as "uanna" in the 11th century and “fannes” since the 15th century, today the area is considered to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. At the heart of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site of the Dolomites, at 2,000 m above sea level, there is a magical paradise for hikers and bikers to visit. No wonder that the epic of the Fanes saga is set right here. In winter, ski tourers and snowshoers love to visit this area to feel the tranquillity and friendliness of nature. The beauty bewitches and overwhelms the senses.

Nature has even created an amphitheatre here. The steps of dolomite rock that lead steadily down to a turquoise mountain lake are known as the “Parliament of the Marmosets”.

Fairyland par excellence

Tamersc

What a sight! Under the mighty, vertical rocks you will see tiny wooden huts. They appear humble and seem to be aware of their own transience. The modesty they radiate in contrast to the gigantic Dolomites was part of life in earlier times. Once, hay was stored in these huts, which the farmers took to the pastures in winter and drove down the hills on huge sledges.

In perceiving the atmosphere I can feel what kind of environment I am in.
